PT Drum Corps is open to incoming middle school 7th and 8th grade band students, high school band students and current PT Drum Corps members. Please call if you fall outside of this general eligibility.

Located right off of Alafaya, PT Drum Corps is housed within the same business community as Classic Rock School of Music at 448 South Alafaya Trail (Room 112) Orlando, Florida 32828. We keep all of our equipment at the location and we practice both outside under a covered patio and outdoors when weather permits.

When learning to play an instrument, the hardest job is to practice. Practice can be a struggle for some, when practicing alone takes a bit of the fun away. Everyday we meet at PTDC, we build a solid foundation in learning, through self expression, strengthening dexterity, and teamwork. We are all learners, as well as teachers, as we share ideas and collaborate.

How We Grow As Percussionists

No one should feel like they do not possess the ability to play. If you have the passion, you can grow as a percussionists. PT Drum Corps offers an atmosphere for like minded percussionists to be able to play alongside each other. We cover the basic fundamentals, and apply rudiments as our core foundation of learning as we progress.  We strive to bring each learner to play out of a passion of playing. We foster teamwork and encouragement for each other, and present cadences and grooves that builds on the excitement of playing as an ensemble.

Players Age and Skill Level

The workshops at PT Drum Corps are tailored to those players who have at least a year of reading music through private lessons or through school. If the student does not know how to read music, many of the materials we will be covering may be foreign to them, and the concepts of learning how to read music for the first time is not covered. It would be best for the student to take some time getting to understand the basics of reading music comfortably with at a minimum, an understanding of reading and playing sixteenth note values and rests.

Membership to PT Drum Corps summer program are for incoming 7th and 8th grade middle school band students, high school band students and current members of PT Drum Corps, because the curriculum is focused on intermediate and advanced level of exercise to

Where We Meet and What To Bring

Every student should have a pair of sticks, a music stand, practice pad and snare stand with them at practice. The snare stand should be able to hold the practice pad and allow the player to stand while playing.  You will need a pair of marching snare sticks as well. There are so many variants and almost any pair will do. However, if you are not sure which ones to buy, the ProMark TXDC17W are a well rounded pair.  Marching snare sticks are required if attending the workshops. Not only will these items be useful in class, but crucial for learning at home as well. Most of our time are focused on our pads, but as the players get comfortable with the lesson plan for the day, we will head outside to our practice area along with PT Drum Corps percussion instruments. All percussion instruments are provided by PT Drum Corps. However, if you own your own percussion marching instrument, let your instructor know if you prefer to play on your own instrument.

The map below is where we will conduct practices. All playing is done outside of our facility as weather permits. A covered patio and shade is our friend as well as a canopy to stay clear from the heat. We do take breaks so it is encouraged to bring snacks and water. Restrooms are available inside as well as AC to cool off. For parents who wish to stay close, there are food and coffee places close by.
